Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (hereinafter as "SMIC") recently issued a public notice, officially announcing the proposed capital increase of SMIC Southern Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter as "SMIC Southern"). SMIC International Holdings Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SMIC, National Semiconductor Industry Investment Fund Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Semiconductor Industry Investment Fund Co., Ltd. will jointly make investment in the aggregate amount of US$3,290,000,000 into SMIC Southern by way of subscribing its newly increased capital, of which US$800,000,000 will be contributed by Shanghai Semiconductor Industry Investment Fund Co., Ltd.
SMIC, with its headquarter in Shanghai, is a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and is the largest and most technology-leading semiconductor foundry in Mainland China. Upon consummation of the capital increase and with the support of government industrial funds, SMIC Southern expects to build a large production capacity, speed up the introduction of advanced manufacturing crafts and products, reduce its costs, and thereby achieve sustainable development.
