The Tenth Lujiazui Law Forum took place on 14 November 2018 at Shanghai International Convention Center. The forum of this year is themed with "Resolution of International Commercial Disputes", aimed to discuss the diversified dispute settlement mechanism connecting all proceedings including litigation, mediation and arbitration which could help with the fairness, professionalism and efficiency of international commercial disputes resolution, so as to create a legally safeguarded business environment of equity and transparency, therefore provide the best service for the national open-up strategy, and eventually forge ahead to make Shanghai a leading city in Asian arbitration. Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice of PRC Mr. Liu Zhenyu, Secretary of the Subcommittee for Political and Legislative Affairs of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee Mr. Chen Yin, President of Shanghai Law Society Mr. Cui Yadong, Director of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice Mr. Lu Weidong and President of the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade Mr. Yang Jianrong were present and gave the opening address. Immediate Past Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association Winnie Tam SC, President of the People's Court of Pudong New Area of Shanghai Yin Yong, and President of the Shanghai Bar Association delivered the keynote speech. Llinks Attorney Mr. Wu Wei and Mr. Yang Peiming attended the forum.
At the keynote forum themed "The Role of 'Arbitration' in International Commercial Dispute Resolution", Attorney Wu made his speech with a detailed comparison between international commercial arbitration and international sports arbitration in which he has devoted decades in the role of an arbitrator at Court of Arbitration for Sport and Swiss Arbitration Association. Chinese lawyers and arbitrators are encouraged to share the resources and support each other on the international level whenever there comes to chances for cooperation, but keep in mind the importance to comply with professional ethics. They shall meantime remember to put professional skills in the first priority in order to win the trust of potential clients and cases, thus making Shanghai the heartland for international arbitration.
The Lujiazui Law Forum has been successfully held for nine years since its foundation in 2009, and is regarded as the earliest permanent forum held by Shanghai Lawyers Association. The 2018 Lujiazui Law Forum is hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice, Shanghai Bar Association, Shanghai Notary Association and Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, organized by Bureau of Justice of Shanghai Pudong New Area, Pudong Working Committee of Shanghai Bar Association, and Pudong Legal Service Association, and co-organized by law firms including Llinks Law Offices. Attendants also include Mr. Li Zelong, member of Pudong Standing Committee, secretary of the Political and Judiciary Commission, together with over 300 distinguished guests from the judicial system, enterprises as well as the academic community.
