On 5 December 2020, Llinks Partner Attorney David Wu was invited to join the founding assembly of the Shanghai Law Society Sports Law Research Association (hereinafter the "Association"). Over forty guests from government agencies, scientific research institutes of universities and legal practice departments attended the conference.
The conference was chaired by Professor Tan Xiaoyong, dean of the Sports Law Institute of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, Executive Director of the China Association for Sports Law. Associate Professor Ms. Xiang Huiying, started with an overall report on the preparations for the Association. Ms. Wang Jian was entrusted by Mr. Shi Weidong, Vice President of the Shanghai Law Society, to announce the Shanghai Law Society's Approval for the establishment of the Sports Law Research Association. Professor Hu Jiling, Vice President of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, was elected as chairman of the Association, Mr. Tan Xiaoyong, Mr. Yu Shiping, Mr. David Wu Wei, Mr. Li Hai, and Mr. Jin Qirong as the vice presidents, and Ms. Xiang Huiying as the Secretary-General of the Association. Mr. Dong Liwu, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Law Society, expressed his congratulations to the Association.
The conference then entered the stage of academic forum. The forum was first addressed by Mr. Chen Yiping, Chairman of the Court of Arbitration for Sport Shanghai Hearing Center. The forum focused on the evolution of pattern of international sports arbitration, the current status and trend of domestic sports law, as well as the diversified options for sports dispute resolution. David Wu presented his speech titled "Status and Development of Sports Dispute Resolution", analyzing the changes in the global sports environment, the current domestic development issues, and put forward his general ideas for the reform of Chinese sports dispute resolution system.
The Shanghai Law Society Sports Law Research Association is officially approved for establishment after more than one year of preparation. As Professor Hu Jiling has pointed out in her speech, with stronger cohesion, the Association would be able to better highlight its advantages, strive to build a high-end think tank in sports law, and make a long-term contribution to the "14th Five-Year Plan" in the development of the Chinese sports industry.
