On 4 December 2020, Llinks Intellectual Property Expert Mr. Xun Yang was invited to participate in China Bio-pharm Summit 2020 and delivered a speech on the Intellectual Property Strategy of Innovative Pharmaceutical Companies. More than 300 scientists, company management and professional service providers in medical services, pharmaceuticals and healthcare industries participated in this Summit.
Mr. Xun Yang discussed the following issues by taking into considerations of features of life science business, based on real cases, (1) value of intellectual property rights to the development of pharmaceutical enterprises; (2) patent portfolio management for innovative pharmaceutical companies; (3) risks incurred to innovative pharmaceutical companies in the "industry-university-research" collaborations; and (4) intellectual property related issues which will be considered in IPO process.
In his speech, Mr. Xun Yang pointed out that the protection of intellectual property rights and the prevention of risks must be performed throughout the whole process of research and development activities of innovative pharmaceutical companies, including hiring of talents, the management of research and development, external collaborations, exchanges of technological information, manufacturing arrangements and other aspects of the business activities. An appropriate intellectual property right management will not only protect the technological leading position of a company and avoid infringements, but also help companies to gain favors in capital markets.
The discussions were well-received by participants. With the rapid development of the innovative drug industry, intellectual property right protection is becoming more and more important for pharmaceutical companies. The improvement of intellectual property right protection in China also boosts the investors' confidence to invest in the pharmaceutical research and development.
