From 23 to 25 October 2020, Llinks partner David Wu was invited to Xi'an for the 9th Bohai Rim Sports Law Forum, which was jointly organized by various provincial sports law organizations and Xi'an Physical Education University.
The Bohai Rim Sports Law Forum was founded in 2012. It is an academic annual meeting jointly sponsored by various provincial sports law organizations. After years of development, it has achieved good academic results and social response, turning to a stable and brand-influential academic exchange platform. The 9th forum attracted more than 160 sports law scholars, lawyers, administrative officers and practitioners from more than 60 units from 18 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. Mr. Li Zhiquan, deputy director and Inspector of Department of Policies and Regulations of the General Administration of Sport of China, Mr. Liu Yan, chairman of the Sports Law and Olympic Legal Affairs Research Association of the Beijing Law Society, Mr. Zhu Zhengnan, inspector of Shanxi Provincial Department of Education, Mr. Dong Xiaolong, Member of the Standing Committee of Shanxi Provincial Committee, and Mr. Zhu Yuanli, President of Xi'an Physical Education University, addressed the forum.
The theme of this annual meeting forum is the construction of modern sports governance and the amendment to sports law, therefore five special topics, namely, "The Legalization Of Sports in China", "Protection of Athletes' Rights", "Doping and Sports Dispute Resolution", "Legal Issues Concerning Events and Sports Law Development", "Sports Governance and Local Sports Reform", are set up for discussion. As the vice president of China Association for Sports Law, Attorney Wu attended as the host guest of the second topic of the forum, focusing on the topic "Protection of Athletes' Rights", and analyzed from multiple perspectives such as association governance reforms, response to the epidemic crisis, and athletes' intellectual property rights protection. He further discussed and commented with the scholars attending, and exchanged ideas regarding strategies for the overall development of the industry and perfecting individual rights protection.
The forum ended with a summary by Professor Ma Hongjun, Director of the Sports Law Institute of China University of Political Science and Law. The forum is considered not only the first offline conference in the domestic sports law community in 2020, but also of the largest scale since 2016. Through in-depth exploration of hot topics, participants are encouraged to explain their views, and demonstrate useful research results.
