On September 24, the Fourth Member Representative Conference of the China Association for Sports Law ("CASL"), also known as the Fourth Council Meeting was held in Beijing. The conference gathered more than 140 participants including sports law scholars, lawyers and officers around the country. Mr. Chen Xunqiu, Party Chief and Executive Vice President of China Law Society attended the meeting to offer congratulations. Mr. Wang Qijiang, Vice President of China Law Society also gave his speech, expecting CASL to further clarify its development directions, and give full play to the advantages of talents to contribute to Chinese sports law.
The meeting reviewed and approved the work report presented by Mr. Liu Yan on behalf of the Third Council, and elected the directors, executive directors, chairman, vice chairmen, and general secretary for the Fourth Council, forming the new leadership of CASL. Li Jianming, deputy director of the General Administration of Sport of China, was elected as Chairman. David Wu, partner of Llinks Law Offices, was elected as one of the Vice Chairmen, being the only practicing lawyer among the new leadership. David Wu was once appointed as the arbitrator of the Ad-hoc arbitration panel of Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. He is the fourth Olympic Ad-hoc arbitrator in Chinese history, and the only current Chinese arbitrator with Olympic experience registered at CAS.
As Chairman Li Jianming has pointed out in his speech, with the vigorous development of sports and the prosperity of legal study, sports law research in China is becoming increasingly active. The goal and role of the CASL is to become a high-end think tank for the reform progress of Chinese sports law, and to provide theoretical support and practical suggestions.
