On 8 December 2019, Llinks Partner Mr. David Wu was invited by Professor Siyuan Tian to present his lecture as a guest speaker for the Winter Olympic Master's Program in Tsinghua University, Beijing. The lecture was themed "Management and Investment of Sports", aiming to present a comprehensive analysis of the domestic sports industry, events governance and associations as well as relevant legal issues. It attracted over 60 participators including members of Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, previous Olympic champions as well as experts and scholars in the sports industry.
With the Beijing Winter Olympics approaching and the strong promotion of the national policy, the huge potential of the sports industry is being continuously explored and fulfilled. For practitioners in sports, how to properly protect the rights and interests of intangible assets developing the value of associations and events has always been the focus. For athletes, the need for protection over intangible assets extends throughout their careers until after retirement. Similarly, for sports organizations, in the context sports associations being independent from administrative power and the entrance of social forces in event hosting, how to evaluate the value of intangible assets, building a sound management framework and ultimately implementing a healthy governance mechanism signify considerable strategic importance. To this end, Lawyer Wei Wu initiated an in-depth discussion with reference to his practice experience on domestic and foreign cases. He provided a thorough explanation from the perspectives of law, management and finance, inspiring the participants with new ideas and giving thoughts on future trend of the industry.
This is Lawyer David Wu's second lecture for the Winter Olympic master's degree program at Tsinghua University.
