Llinks Partner Attorney David Wu was invited to General Programme of the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) Seminar hosted in Budapest, Hungary from 24-25 October 2019.
CAS is an international dispute resolution institution for sport-related disputes established in 1984, headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. The seminar aims to summarize the work progress of international sports arbitration in 2019, and plan for future coordination in the expertise. More than 220 sports arbitrators and mediators from around the world attended the seminar.
The seminar first briefed on the 2019 work progress of international sports arbitration, then discussed on general issues under the background of European human rights law and the Swiss Law system. The seminar invited several CAS arbitrators to analyze on the jurisprudence and trend of legislation with regard to hot issues including anti-doping, eligibility for games etc., and further communicate on smoother connection between the rules of football and the CAS dispute resolution system.
As the only present Chinese CAS arbitrator with Olympics background, David is very experienced in international sport-related dispute resolution. During the seminar, David shared his view on the long-term outlook of Chinese sports arbitration with Ms. Xue Hanqin, the first ICAS member with Chinese nationality, Judge at the International Court of Justice. The successful hosting of the seminar provided further instruction from CAS for evolvement of international sports arbitration.
