On June 16, 2019, Llinks Law Offices partner Mr. David Wu was invited to attend the Pan-Entertainment Industry Forum of 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival. The theme of this forum is "The New Era of Chinese Pan-Entertainment Industry: The Role to Pioneer". The forum gathered well-known industry practitioners, market experts, scholars and lawyers, focusing on completion bond system of Chinese film industry and frontier issues in of entertainment and sports industry.
Li Zhenlin, President of the School of Film and Television of Shanghai Theatre Academy, and Attorney Mr. Gu Gongyun, delivered speeches at the forum. At the beginning of the forum, Mr. Ding Sijie of Ping An Property Insurance Co., Ltd., Mr. Zhao Shuyuan of Digital Domain Holdings Ltd. and Attorney Mr. Xiao Bo delivered keynote speeches on the localization of film completion bond, the development and transformation of Chinese film technology and the control of financial and taxation risks in the film and television industry. The following round table discussion invited senior producers and box office management experts to analyze the in-depth evolution of Chinese fledgling film completion bond system. The second-round speeches focused on the border issues arising from the cross-border and integration of sports and entertainment industries, and discussed the substantive issues related to intellectual property, antitrust, commercial development etc.
With years of combined experience as arbitrator of the CAS and sports lawyer, Attorney Wu delivered his speech on the topic "Sports Stars' Crossovers - the Border Issues in the Process of Integration of Entertainment and Sports Law", focusing on the phenomenon of sports stars' cross-border participation in entertainment activities. The speech first analyzed the difference of sports stars' rights and interests in sports activities and commercial entertainment activities, then the particularity of domestic athletes. Starting from the athletes' commercial rights under the existing policy framework, Attorney Wu explained the different cooperation modes, potential conflicts and corresponding conflict prevention mechanisms between athletes, sports events, event sponsors and commercial entertainment sponsors, and further introduced the characteristics of dispute resolution systems in the field of domestic and international sports law. With the acceleration of the integration of sports law and entertainment law, Llinks lawyer will follow the development of the industry and further explore the frontier in practice.
