On 25th June 2019, Xun Yang was invited to speak as a panelist on the IPR Gorilla Conference Singapore Edition. The conference brought together IP and legal experts, corporate counsels and investors to discuss the solutions for key issues and challenges faced by the Legal & IP professionals in the present time, including the changes to IP protections in the cyber age, IP protections for start-up and innovative business, e-discovery, etc.
During the conference, Yang Esq. spoke as a panelist on Managing Litigation & IP in the age of Cyber theft and e-Discovery. He pointed out that cyber technology has created a new type of IP which is data, and has brought more value to data; meanwhile, cyber technology threats IP protection as any information released online will easily be lost. He also pointed out that despite of such threats, the e-discovery tools and forensic technology are in place to protect IP in cyber space. Yang Esq. also introduced the newly established Internet court and the use of blockchain technology to preserve evidence improves the IP protection environment in China.
When discussing the ways to protect IP in digital age, Yang Esq. emphasized the importance of managerial rules. He pointed out a well prepared and fully implemented managerial rule plus necessary training will improve employees' IP awareness and strengthen the control over digitalized IP assets.
Xun Yang's speech was well received by the audience. With the fast development of new technology, innovation of business models, and changing legal environment, a creative IP protection system and a compliant IP strategy are a critical issue for technology oriented and data centric companies.
