On 21st February 2019, Llinks lawyer Xun Yang was invited to speak as a panelist on the 46th Global Legal ConfEx & Law Tech Exhibition in Singapore. The exhibition brought together more than 300 participants in legal and technology industries to discuss hot topics along the interactions between technology innovations and development of legal services, including the changes in the competition environment, demands on IP protections, and challenges to legal services.
During the exhibition, Yang Esq. spoke as a panelist on IP and competition in digital age. He pointed out that, in the digital age, the market has been becoming increasingly competitive and that the most valuable assets business operators are fighting for are data, including personal data and big data, which are protected either as personal information and/or as trade secrets. He also pointed out that despite of the rampant online IP infringement, the newly established Internet court and the use of blockchain technology to preserve evidence improve the IP protection environment in China.
As to the challenge to the legal service business, Yang Esq., believed that client would impose higher requirements on lawyers. Lawyers are not only required to understand the law, but also to understand the technological development as well as the impact thereby.
Xun Yang's speech was well received by the audience. With the fast development of new technology, innovation of business models, and changing legal environment, a stronger IP protection system and a more compliant IP strategy are critical for technology oriented companies.
