On September 14th and 15th 2017 it was successfully hold a seminar at Shijiazhuang, Hebei, focused on the Regulations on the Protection of the Olympic Symbols (Draft Revision for Review) (the "Regulations"), in which Mr. David Wu, Partner of Llinks Law Offices was invited.
The seminar was jointly organized by China Law Society Institute of Sports Law, Beijing Law Society Institute of Sports Law and Olympic Legal Affairs, Hebei Law Society Institute of Sports Law, and hosted by the Law School of Hebei University of Economics and Business. Over 30 members attended the seminar, including experts from the foresaid institutes, Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Hebei Office for Olympic Winter Games, as well as lawyers and professors of different universities.
The seminar proceeded thorough a wide variety of constructive discussions on different subjects such as the articles that regulate the scope of the rights of the Olympic symbol, articles that recognize such rights, consequences of their infringement as well as the degree of protection for such rights, among others. David Wu, by virtue of his in-depth study and rich experience on sports law, presented several constructive comments in respect to the aforesaid articles.
The revision to the Regulations not only plays a crucial role in the protection of the Olympic intellectual property rights, provides support in the promotion of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and the reform and development of China sports sector, but also provides us with a new point of view and approach in the protection of sports related investments and intellectual property rights, which have increasingly become more and more popular in recent years.
