On September 20, 2025, Llinks partner Mr. David Wu and Senior Associate Mr. Roy Chu were invited to attend the "2025 Seminar on Foreign-Related Sports Rule of Law." The event was jointly hosted by the China Sports Law Society and the Shanghai Sports Law Society, and organized by the newly established School of Sports Law at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (SHUPL).
The seminar also marked the inauguration of SHUPL's School of Sports Law, the first of its kind in China and the nation's only institution dedicated to undergraduate-level sports law education. The ceremony was held at the China-SCO International Judicial Exchange and Cooperation Training Base at SHUPL.
The forum was opened with addresses by Gang Liu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SHUPL; Tao Ding, Director of the Sports Arbitration Center of the General Administration of Sport of China; and Siyuan Tian, Executive Vice President of the China Sports Law Society. Discussions focused on key issues such as legal risks and countermeasures for international sporting events, extraterritorial jurisdiction in sports law, and cutting-edge topics in sports arbitration. Mr. Roy Chu delivered a speech titled "Balancing the Stability of Professional Sports Contracts and the Protection of Athletes' Rights: A Perspective from the Diarra Case and the Evolution of FIFA Rules," in which he analyzed the trends in rulings and rule updates from FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding contract breaches and the free movement of athletes.
During the inauguration ceremony, Mr. David Wu and Mr. Roy Chu were appointed as Practical Mentors for the School of Sports Law at SHUPL. They will share their practical experience and specialized knowledge in international sports law to help cultivate a new generation of talent with a global vision and high-level professional skills.
