To assist retail enterprises in navigating the path to data compliance under the new regulatory environment, Llinks and Wolters Kluwer successfully held an offline seminar titled "From Phenomena to Essence—Discussion on Data Compliance Practices in the Retail Industry" at Llinks' Shanghai office on May 14, 2025.
The seminar combined the current status and trends of data legislation and enforcement, focusing on the compliance pain points faced by retail brands in scenarios such as intelligent marketing and AI usage. Dr. David Pan firstly shared insights on the topic "PIA, Personal Information Compliance Audits, and Key Compliance Focus Areas in Data Retention," analyzing typical cases of illegal handling of personal information in the retail industry based on the latest enforcement trends. He shared practical experiences in assisting enterprises with Personal Information Protection Impact Assessments (PIA) and highlighted key points of personal information compliance audits in light of the implementation of the "Management Measures for Personal Information Protection Compliance Audits." Finally, Dr. Pan elaborated on the compliance pain point of "data retention" and shared the essentials of communication among legal/compliance departments, IT, and business teams from the perspective of improving communication efficiency.
Addressing the collision of AI technology and retail practices, along with the resulting compliance challenges, Mr. Nigel Zhu presented on "AI Empowering the Retail Industry: Compliance Risks and Responses." Based on observations of AI application trends in the retail and luxury brand sectors, Mr. Zhu analyzed the multi-faceted compliance risks from both internal and external applications of AI, emphasizing compliance scenarios that enterprises should pay special attention to, and provided actionable ideas and suggestions for practical implementation.
Ms. Susan Deng focused on the unique needs of the retail industry in the marketing domain with her presentation titled "Multiple Issues and Solutions in Marketing Data Compliance." She shared the latest trends and challenges faced by retail brands in customer acquisition marketing within both private and public domains, and provided detailed compliance points corresponding to various marketing paths. Additionally, Ms. Deng discussed the practice points for conducting PIA and personal information audits in key scenarios where brands use customer data for marketing, such as member data integration and facial recognition technology.
This seminar provided a platform for attendees to exchange and learn, fostering the sharing of management experiences and information exchange among retail enterprises in key compliance areas such as data.
