On 20 December 2024, Llinks partner Mr. David Wu was invited to present at the 44th installment of the "Shandong University International Rule of Law Talent Development High-Level Forum" hosted by Shandong University School of Law. His academic report, titled "Cultural Diversity in International Legal Practice: A Legal Perspective on the World", was chaired by Professor Shixi Huang from the Shandong University School of Law with Professor Wenyng Zhu from Weifang University acting as the discussant.
Mr. David Wu opened his lecture by referencing "The Spirit of the Laws" to explore the dynamic relationship between law and various factors such as political systems, geography, and climate. Drawing on his personal experiences, he underscored the value of extensive travel and broadening one's worldview. He also touched on the impact of language and linguistic families, the role of key languages in foreign courts, international arbitration, and international organisations, and the distinctions between these entities and domestic litigation and arbitration. Reflecting on his observations of cultural differences across nations, Mr. Wu offered practical advice for the law students should develop and engaged in a detailed Q&A session with the students.
On 21 December 2024, Mr. Wu was invited to the 2024 Annual Academic Conference of the Shandong Sports Law Research Association, which was chaired by the association's president, Shibo Jiang. Mr. Wu delivered a compelling speech on "International Sports Arbitration Case Studies", offering an in-depth analysis of various cases, including labour contract disputes, disciplinary actions, anti-doping violations, and ad-hoc arbitration matters, all of which have significant practical implications.
The conference featured specialised presentations and open discussions on topics such as "The Need and Justification for Establishing the Crime of Manipulating Sports Competitions", "Regulation of Private Sports Events", "Legal Issues in Professional Sports Events in Shandong Province", and "The Future Development of the Shandong Law Society's Sports Law Research Association".
