On 28 November 2024, the 28th edition of the IPR Gorilla International Intellectual Property Seminar took place in Singapore, drawing intellectual property experts from across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, representing dozens of countries and regions. Esq. Xun Yang from Llinks Law Offices was honoured with an invitation to join a roundtable discussion titled 'The Impact of Intellectual Property Practices in a Globalised World'.
During the roundtable, Esq. Xun Yang provided insights into the legal frameworks and case law surrounding artificial intelligence, including intellectual property protection, patent eligibility, inventor recognition, and the legality of training data. He also presented a perspective on AI-related intellectual property issues from the perspective of competition law and engaged in a dialogue with other panellists about the role, benefits, and shortcomings of AI in intellectual property practices. Esq. Yang's contributions were met with enthusiastic feedback from the attendees.
As artificial intelligence continues to advance and its applications become more ubiquitous, the challenges it poses to the current intellectual property regime are becoming increasingly apparent. The integration of AI technology in legal practice is an issue that cannot be sidestepped in the future.
