On 2 November 2024, the '2024 Shanghai Law Society's Sports Law Research Institute Annual Conference and the 5th Sports Law Summit' took place, marking a successful gathering. The Shanghai Law Society's Sports Law Research Institute led the charge, with the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law's Sports Law Research Institute stepping up as the host. The event was further bolstered by the collaboration of the China Arbitration Law Society's Sports Arbitration and Mediation Special Committee, the International Sports Arbitration Court's Shanghai Hearing Centre, and the Shanghai Bar Association's Sports Law Committee. The conference was attended by notable figures from the China Law Society's Sports Law Research Institute, the Shanghai Sports Bureau, and the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law. It also attracted a cross-section of scholars, including judges from the People's Courts, academics from prestigious universities, law firm partners, legal practitioners, and corporate legal advisors from leading companies.
Mr. David Wu, a partner at Llinks Law Offices, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Law Society's Sports Law Research Institute, a member of the China Sports Arbitration Committee, and an arbitrator, was a featured guest at the summit. He was invited to present a keynote address on the main stage, where he tackled the theme 'New Legal Issues of the Fifteenth National Games'. Mr. Wu delved into the legal challenges and practicalities associated with the staging of major sports events, with an emphasis on the critical and complex legal frameworks surrounding the Fifteenth National Games.
In the keynote segment, other speakers offered their perspectives on a variety of legal issues related to the monopoly rights of international sports organisations, sports event sponsorship, stadium safety, international large-scale sports events hosted in China, sports training institutions outside of school, prepaid sports and fitness consumption, and sports arbitration. These discussions were followed by an engaging and spirited academic salon where the experts exchanged in-depth insights and opinions.
