In November 2023, Llinks London office was honoured to be invited to host a seminar on international legal services for the Jiangsu Bar Association delegation to the UK at the University of Law, London Moorgate campus. The event brought together nearly 30 managing partners, executive directors, senior partners and leading Chinese lawyers from 28 law firms in Jiangsu Province to discuss the convergence, challenges and development of the legal services market in China and the UK. The seminar was hosted by Yuhua Yang, a partner of Llinks London office, and featured a keynote speech by former international editor of The Lawyer, Ms Yun Kriegler.
As the first speaker, Yun, with her 16 years of experience in the legal media, gave participants an overview of the internationalisation trends of large law firms in the UK and the US, and analysed the opportunities and challenges faced by Chinese law firms in the process of internationalisation.
Ms Rhea Yu, a lawyer from Llinks London office, introduced the overall structure of the UK legal services market, analysed the current situation of the UK legal services industry, and explained in detail the common demends encountered by Chinese clients in choosing foreign legal services.
Finally, Ms Yuhua Yan shared the development history of Llinks London Office since its establishment in 2017, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced by Llinks in exploring a different development path for Chinese law firms in such a preeminent and mature market as the UK. Ms Yang also discussed the operation model of Chinese law firms in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and the development strategy of providing professional service solutions for Chinese enterprises in the broader stage of the world, focusing on the demand for cross-jurisdictional legal services related to the "Belt and Road" initiative.
During the two-hour session, the three speakers, with their unique perspectives and areas of expertise, presented a multi-faceted and pragmatic professional sharing session, which was well received by the delegation group. Participants not only gained an in-depth understanding of the latest development of the legal services market in the UK, but also deeply appreciated the insights from legal media and cross-border legal practitioners based on their years of practice experience.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Llinks, the London team also invited members of the delegation group to a warm celebration reception at Butlers Wharf, one of the landmarks of London on the River Thames - at the foot of Tower Bridge, where they had a warm exchange of views in a more relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
