In a globalized world full of unpredictable changes, young professionals are at the forefront of crossing different cultural boundaries, an exercise that can be as rewarding as it is challenging.
The University of Law has organised a talk on Cultural Competence, inviting as speakers Yuhua Yang, resident London partner of Llinks Law Offices and avvocato Stefania Caltabiano, European lawyer and Llinks' consultant. The aim of the session was to explore common grounds and diversity in communication between different cultures, especially when applied to the skills requested to international lawyers serving a very diverse clientele.
The talk introduced the importance of cultural awareness and illustrated, with some practical examples, the different levels of communication, directness and hierarchy that may arise when dealing and negotiating with different nationalities and cultures. The talk was well received by the attendees as it gave practical first-hand insights on international legal practice, and how to increase understanding and inclusiveness when involved in negotiations and projects.
