Llinks Lawyer Invited to Give Lecture at 'Sports Law and Healthy China’ Forum Held by China University of Political Science and Law

On 22 December 2021, Llinks lawyer David Wu (WU Wei) was invited to participate in the 30th 'Sports Law and Healthy China' forum co-hosted by the Sports Law Research Base and Sports Law Research Institute of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), delivering a lecture on the theme of 'Sports Dispute Resolution System' which focused on the practical issues concerning this regard. Professor YUAN Gang, the director of the Sports Research Institute of CUPL presided over the forum, while professor MA Hongjun and professor LUO Xiaoshuang were on the panel, and all sports law-majored graduate students of CUPL attended the forum.

Based on his profound practice experience, Mr. Wu analyzed the system of sports dispute resolution, including a systematic introduction of the dispute resolution procedures and protocols of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). He then proposed an outlook of the development of China's sports industry by reviewing a variety of international sports dispute cases. In terms of soccer and basketball dispute resolution systems, Mr Wu drew a comparison between international and domestic soccer and basketball dispute resolution institutions from different perspectives. Furthermore, Mr Wu shared his insights on and introduced the dispute resolution systems of four major professional sports leagues in the US in brief, and illustrated alternative means to resolve sports disputes from three aspects viz. labour arbitration, commercial arbitration and civil litigation.

By sharing his experiences as an arbitrator and lawyer in sports disputes, Mr Wu presented a practical and informational academic feast from multiple perspectives, allowing the teachers and students to have a clearer understanding of sports rights and the establishment of the sports arbitration system from brand-new perspectives. He also inspired all to pay more attention to the overall landscape of China's sports law system and called upon the audience present to closely focus on the development and reforms of the ecology of sports law.
